The moment Quinn opens the door to me, I storm inside. Iâve had all the drive from downtown Los Angeles to work myself up about it, and now Iâm livid. I donât even bother greeting Quinn with a kiss.
âHey sweetie, whatâs wrong?â he asks, following me into his living room.
Sighing, I throw my notebook and my purse on the couch and shake my head.
âWhoa, whatâs going on? Did something happen between you and Grace?â he asks, and puts his hands on my shoulders.
Pressing my lips together, I do my best to keep the tears from overflowing in my eyes, but I fail.
âItâs justâ¦â I mumble, and wipe away the tears. âI ran into Justin on my way out of thereâ¦â
âJustin,â Quinn says, his face turning dark.
âYeah, and it turns out that he was there because dad apparently called him up and offered him a job.â
âHe did not.â
âYeah. And there I was. Trying my best not to get upset about it, but it was impossible. I donât understandâ¦â I whimper, and Quinn wraps his arms around me. His big, strong arms are so comfortable. And to have his warm chest against mine makes me want to cry even more. âI donât get it⦠Why would he do this to me, you know?â
âI get it, baby. Your dad sounds like a complete moron if you ask me.â
âI hate him. I hate him for treating me this way,â I say, as the tears continue to flood down my cheeks.
âOh sweetie,â Quinn whispers, and kisses my tears away. âI wish there was something I could do to make you feel betterâ¦â
âJust⦠Just hold meâ¦â I mumble, and cry some more.
âCome here, beautiful,â Quin says, and lifts me up into his arms. Then he carries me into his bedroom and puts me down gently on the bed. Taking off my shoes, he sits down on the bed next to me and starts rubbing my feet. It actually feels really good, and Iâm so grateful that heâs there for me.
âAnd now Iâm mad at myself for getting so upset. I should just⦠I mean, I wish I didnât care so much,â I say, and close my eyes. Quinn hands me a napkin, and I dry the tears from my eyes with it.
âBut you do care. And itâs no wonder. Your fatherâs gone out of his way to hurt you, so itâs only natural that you get upset.â
âI knowâ¦â I say, and glance at him. âYouâre right⦠You always say exactly the right thingsâ¦â
âSweetie,â he whispers, and lets go of my feet. Lying down next to me, he lets me rest my head against his chest. It feels so warm and so comfortable, that I start feeling better right away.
âThank you Quinn,â I say quietly, and put my hand on his chest.
âDonât worry about it darling, you know you can always come to me if youâre upset. Iâll take care of you. In every way I possibly can.
âThank you⦠It means a lot to me,â I say, and kiss him.
